American Lhasa Apso Club Futurity and Maturity

There have been important changes in the Futurity & Maturity Events

Futurity & Maturity events are intended to encourage the breeding of the best possible Lhasa Apsos and to reward the breeders for their efforts. Recognition is also given to the owners in whose hands lie the responsibility of developing the inherited potentials. The sire and dam are also recognized for their genetic contribution in a breeding program. Spectators also benefit from witnessing the results of a variety of breeding matches.

A fund has been established by Larry Bruton in memory of Jan Bruton (JBMF) to promote the preservation of the Lhasa Apso Breed through sponsorship of the ALAC Futurity & Maturity Events. The JBMF will be managed by the ALAC Treasurer and Futurity Chair.

Preservation of the Lhasa Apso Breed will be promoted:

1. Through increased breeding
2. Through increased participation in the annual Futurity & Maturity events
3. Through making the nominations and entry fees for the Futurity & Maturity events FREE to the breeder/owner plus the entry fees for the regular classes at the National Specialty (not GMLAC or ALAC Regional Specialty) of the nominated dogs.

Support of the Club:

1. Reimburses ALAC expenses for the Futurity and Maturity Events
2. This includes increased cash awards of $100 each for:

a. Grand Futurity Winner
b. Best Puppy in Futurity
c. Best Adult in Futurity
d. Best of Breed in Maturity
e. Best of Opposite Sex in Maturity

3. Designated Futurity prizes in each class:

a. 1st place $40
b. 2nd Place $30
c. 3rd Place $20
d. 4th Place $10

The process for breeders will be as follows:

1. Nominate your litters for the Futurity and individual adult dogs (from litters that were nominated the year before) for the Maturity.
2. DO NOT send a check to Lynn with the nominations!
3. Each Lhasa Breeder could nominate up to three litters per eligibility year with the registration fees free to the breeder. Any number of litters more than three would be the responsibility of the breeder to pay their nomination fee.
4. From the nominated litters up to three individual dogs could be entered in the Futurity with all costs covered by the Fund. A breeder could also enter up to three Maturity eligible registered dogs per year with all fees also covered by the Fund. Dogs entered in the Futurity and Maturity must also be entered in a regular class at the National Specialty. These entry fees for National Specialty classes will also be paid by the Fund.
5. The breeder is responsible for nominating litters before the deadline and for MAKING all entries in classes for Futurity/Maturity and the National Specialty. The fees for both Futurity/Maturity class and National Specialty class will be paid by the Jan Bruton Memorial Fund.

The deadline to nominate litters for the Futurity or individual dogs for the Maturity from litters that were nominated last year has been extended to JUNE 1ST, 2023.

Puppies born April 1, 2022‐March 20, 2023 have until June 1st to nominate for this year’s Futurity.
